Yes. Your master password is used to derive an encryption key locally on your device using PBKDF2. We never receive, store, or transmit your master password or encryption key. Even our engineers cannot see your vault contents — ever.
At sign-up, you'll generate a set of one-time backup codes. These codes can be used to recover access to your vault if you forget your master password. Store them somewhere safe — a printed copy in a secure location works well. Without them, recovery is not possible.
You designate one or more trusted contacts and choose an inactivity threshold (e.g. 30, 60, or 90 days). If ChillPass doesn't detect any account activity within that period, it sends a verification request to you first. If there's no response, it begins a secure, encrypted handoff to your designated contacts.
Browser extensions are available for Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. Native apps are available for iOS and Android. The web app works on any modern browser. Desktop apps for macOS and Windows are on the roadmap.
Yes. Free accounts support up to 25 vault items with core encryption features. Upgrading to Premium unlocks unlimited vault items, the Digital Legacy system, trusted device management, priority support, and more.
Yes. ChillPass supports one-click CSV imports from 1Password, Bitwarden, LastPass, Dashlane, and Keeper. Your passwords are encrypted immediately on import — they're never stored in plaintext.
Your encrypted vault is synced in real-time across all your devices. You can also export an encrypted local backup at any time from your settings. Because the data is encrypted client-side, even exported backups are unreadable without your master password.
You can export a fully encrypted backup of your vault at any time in standard JSON or CSV format. We're committed to data portability — your passwords are always yours, not ours.
